The Day of Regrets

The Day of Regrets

Mustafa Rahman

There are many details in the Quran and Sunnah that explain the Day of Judgement. The Day of Judgement is a day where the decisions have been made, and from the decisions, they will be regret from some people. The Day of Judgement is also known as the Day of Regret. There are many stages of regret, and we hopefully will never go through these moments.

The first moment is when the person is on his deathbed, and the soul is being pulled by the Angel of Death. At that moment, the person knows that his time has come, and he’ll be pleading to Allah. His soul will scream and say, “Send my back!”. The soul will not want to come back to finish worldly things, the soul will be begging to come back to do righteous deeds. Allah will respond, “No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected.” In the Quran, it says that nobody will go back and their pleading will be fake. At that moment, they will regret not following Allah

The second moment of regret is when the person is in the grave. When the person is in his/her grave, a terrible looking man will come to the person in the grave. The person will ask, “Who are you?”, and the man will say, “I am your evil deeds”. At that moment, they’ll regret not obeying Allah

The third moment of regret is when the person comes out of his/her grave. During this time, the person will see the signs of the Day of Judgement, and, “They will say: "Woe to us! Who has raised us up from our place of sleep." (It will be said to them): "This is what the Most Gracious (Allah) had promised, and the Messengers spoke the truth!" At that moment, they’ll regret not obeying Allah and following the message of Muhammad (SAW)

The fourth moment is when the books will be distributed. At that time, the person will receive the book in his left hand. At that moment, the people will say, “I wish that I had not been given my Record! And that I had never known how my Account is! Would that have been my end (death)! My wealth has not availed me; My power (and arguments to defend myself) have gone from me!" Not only will they regret not obeying Allah and doing their rights, but they’ll also regret mocking Allah and the people who followed the deen.

Please sit down for a moment

The fifth moment of regret is when the person sees Hell. “When the earth is ground to powder. And your Lord comes with the angels in rows. And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for my real life!" They will regret not putting in the effort to build their eternal life.

The sixth moment of regret is when they are in hell. Even when the people are in hell, they will still regret. They will say, "O Malik (Keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord make an end of us." He will say: "Verily you shall abide forever." After hearing this answer, the people in hell will still plead. “Call upon your Lord to lighten for us the torment for a day!” The angels will respond, “Did there not come messengers with clear evidence and signs?” The people will respond with yes. Then. the angels will say, “Keep making dua, it’ll go to waste.”

And then, comes the seventh moment. When the people are in hell, they will start speaking to Allah. They’ll say, “Our Lord! Bring us out of this; and if we ever return (to evil), then indeed we shall be Zâlimûn: (polytheists, oppressors, unjust, and wrong-doers)." Then, Allah will respond, “You’re staying here forever. Don’t ever talk to me again.” And that will be the final time you hear from the people of hell.

Allah (SAW) shows these moments in the Quran. With his extreme mercy, he is telling us what is going to happen. We should be thankful that we are still alive. Because anything could have happened and anything could happen. We don’t know how much time we have. We must make sure we are doing things that will increase our faith and status and that will protect us from enduring these moments of regret.
